.
Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him.
Oh believers! Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him,
Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings of peace.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad ibn Abdullah, the one who fulfills the rights of Allah.
Whenever things become difficult, Allah grants relief. And send blessings upon his family and Companions, and grant them peace.
May Allah send blessings upon Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
Dalil Al-Khayrāt (The Guide to Goodness) Episode 3
More virtues of sending Salawat on the Prophet and the blessing of abundant recitation
It is narrated that Ubayy ibn Ka‘b asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,
“What is the minimum [portion] of my Salawat should I dedicate to you?”
Meaning, how often should I send Salawat upon you in my supplications?
He [Ubayy] first mentioned a third, then two-thirds.
Finally, he said, “I will dedicate the entire portion of my Salawat to you (O Prophet).”
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, responded, “If so, you will have your worries relieved, and your sins forgiven.”
This is the true meaning of blessing (Barakah).
This hadith is one of the most profound in illustrating the virtues of sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Ubayy ibn Ka‘b was from among the memorizers of the Qur’an and fathomed its merit,
also realized the significance of sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
That is why he asked this question.
Sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, brings countless benefits in every aspect.
In general, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised:
If you dedicate a third of your Salawat, he said, “It is good, and if you increase, it is better for you.”
If you dedicate half, he said, “It is good, and if you increase, it is better for you.”
Finally, when he said, “I will dedicate the entire portion of my Salawat to you,” the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, replied, “If so, you will have your worries relieved, and your sins forgiven.”
“It will relieve your worries,” and a person ultimately has many worries.
Worries relating to sickness, livelihood, raising children, worship, and protection from trials.
Therefore, one should seek refuge in sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to fulfill their needs.
This is the primary reason behind the writing and compilation of the book (Dala’il Al-Khayrat).
Imam Al-Jazuli authored this book due to a miraculous event — the book itself is a miracle.
Imam Al-Jazuli, may Allah be pleased with him, was in his hometown and went out to perform ablution.
He looked into the well and found that the water had dried up.
He was confused, and suddenly, a little girl showed up.
She asked him, “Who are you?” He replied, “I am Al-Jazuli.” She said, “You are the one people speak of
for your goodness, righteousness, success, and knowledge?”
He replied, “Yes, I am.” She then asked, “Are you unable to draw water from the well?”
He asked, “How is that possible?” The girl spat into the well, and water gushed forth.
He said to her, “By Allah, how did you do that?”
She replied, “By sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”
She told him, “By sending Salawat upon the one, whom when he walked in the barren desert,
wild animals clung to his garments.”
Thereupon, he took an oath to author a book, and so he wrote this book (Dala’il Al-Khayrat).
The book encompasses simple wording: “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, have mercy, bless, and grant peace.”
Just a few words.
Nevertheless, from these words, he composed a 150-page book that gained widespread acceptance across the Muslim world, from East to West.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Prophet of Mercy. O Allah, send blessings upon the Intercessor of the Ummah.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, in accordance with the number of those who send blessings upon him.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, the one who possesses the secret of beauty.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one who, when he walked in the barren desert, wild animals clung to his garments.
O Allah, send blessings upon him, his family, and his Companions, and grant them peace abundantly.
And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
No one has ever invoked Salawat upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
during a hardship, without Allah relieving their distress.
The problem is that we seek help from physicians, from this person and that person, yet we fail to turn to Allah and His Messenger.
The Messenger tells you, "Your worries will be relieved," yet you respond, "Let's give it a try."
How can you ‘try’ it? If we understood how close he is to Allah,
this would be the most important thing for anyone who loves and remembers the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) to keep in mind.
I send Salawat upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
so that I may be beloved to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. How beautiful that is!
Everything that concerns a person, whether related to this world or the Hereafter, whether immediate or delayed, visible or hidden
worldly or spiritual, psychological or physical
whatever its type may be — the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Your worries will be relieved.”
A person who consistently sends Salawat upon the Prophet,
with their heart and intention directed towards Allah seeking relief
by the blessing of sending Salawat upon the Prophet, if Allah wills, He will grant relief. Why?
Because the Lord says, “I am as My servant thinks of Me.”
If he expects good, it will be good; if he expects bad, it will be bad.
When I have good expectations of my Lord and draw near to Him
by sending Salawat upon the Prophet, I am drawing nearer to Him
with the intention of, “O Lord, grant me relief,” and He will grant it.
Because I am dealing with the Most Merciful, the Giver,
the Responder, the All-Hearing, the Gentle, and the Loving, who manifests His grace upon me.
O You, the Exalted in Glory.
O You, the Exalted in Glory.
O You, the Exalted in Glory.
O You, the Exalted in Glory.
O You, the Exalted in Glory.
Inner peace.
Tranquility.
Inner serenity.
Spiritual illumination.
Mental clarity.
These are terms used by coaches in today’s world
to describe methods that help a person improve their relationship with themselves.
However, they often turn to Eastern philosophies and religions,
and self-development studies without realizing that God, the Almighty,
has blessed us with the gift of sending Salawat upon our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family
This serves as a gateway to what the world is seeking today.
Our Prophet is the source of tranquility, peace, and comfort.
Therefore, when we send Salawat upon him, we are actually invoking peace, tranquility, and comfort.
This can happen instantly — imagine two people in the middle of a heated argument,
and suddenly, someone mentions the Prophet and says, “Send Salawat upon the Prophet.”
It is as if a light extinguishes the fire of anger.
Calmness fills the place.
That’s why some say, “Increase your Salawat upon the Prophet” — they want to amplify the peace even more.
Sending Salawat upon the beloved Prophet, peace be upon him, generates the greatest energy of peace.
Invoking Salawat upon our Prophet establishes a spirituality of peace, for Allah is the source of peace.
When we stand in front of the Ka’ba, we say, “O Allah, You are Peace,
and from You comes peace, and to You returns peace. So grant us peace, O Lord.”
Allah’s peace in existence is embodied in the beloved Prophet, peace be upon him.
When you say, “Peace and blessings be upon you, O my Master, O Messenger of Allah,” what does this mean?
It means praying that he is in peace. You are asking Allah, the Almighty, to grant the Prophet peace.
A part of the Prophet's peace is that his community remains in peace.
You are part of his community, so when you send Salawat and peace upon him,
your prayer of peace for him reflects back onto you.
In essence, you are asking that Allah does not harm him through his community.
Since you are part of his community, you are also praying that Allah does not harm him through you, either in faith or in worldly affairs.
O Allah, send blessings upon the soul of our Master Muhammad among all souls, and upon his body among all bodies
and upon his grave among all graves, and upon his family and Companions.
The matters of the afterlife and the soul are among the most vital necessities in a person's life.
However, the benefits of sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,
are not limited to spiritual aspects only.
They also encompass practical, worldly benefits that matter to a person’s daily life.
A woman once had a dream in which she saw her deceased daughter being punished in Hell.
Later, she saw her daughter again, this time enjoying the pleasures of Paradise. The mother asked her,
"My daughter, I first saw you in Hell, and now I see you in Paradise. What changed your conditions?"
The daughter replied, “A man passed by a cemetery and invoked Salawat for just one time upon the Prophet, peace be upon him.
Then he said, ‘O Allah, I dedicate the reward of this Salawat to the people of this cemetery.’
The reward reached me and it took me out of Hell and placed me in the highest gardens of Paradise,
all by the blessing of sending Salawat upon our beloved Prophet, peace be upon him and his family.”
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad in proportion to Your love for him.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad in proportion to Your care for him.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad according to his true worth and stature.
O Allah, send blessings and peace on the Messenger of Allah.
O Allah, send blessings and peace on the Messenger of Allah.
The belief that our Master Muhammad (PBUH) has control over the universe by the permission of Allah is a concept affirmed by scholars.
Their evidence for this is the authentic hadith:
"I am the distributor, and Allah is the Giver."
Scholars explain this hadith by stating that the true Giver is Allah Almighty,
while the distribution is carried out by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
This role does not pertain only to his earthly life; it continues beyond that.
For his mission, peace and blessings be upon him and his family,
did not end with his transition to the life of the grave (Barzakh).
Rather, it extends until the Day of Judgment.
Allah, the Almighty, said: “Indeed, I will place a vicegerent on the Earth.”
A vicegerent must possess some attributes of the One who appointed him.
When you appoint someone to fulfill a task on your behalf,
you grant them certain powers to act without needing to refer back to you.
In the same way, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is the true vicegerent, not only on Earth but in the entire universe.
The vicegerency of our father Adam was limited to Earth.
However, the vicegerency of the Prophet, in terms of his spirituality, is universal, for he was sent as a mercy to all the worlds.
Thus, true vicegerency was manifested in the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Everything in existence obeyed him.
An example of his blessing was manifested in multiplying the amount of food that occurred
on the Day of the Trench (Battle of the Trench). When our Master Jabir
invited the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for a small goat that was enough for only four people.
The Prophet said, “O people of the trench, Jabir has invited you for a meal.” Our Master Jabir was startled.
He said, “O Messenger of Allah, this is all the food we have!” The Prophet replied, “Don’t worry, bring it forth to me.”
He asked for the dough, and when it was brought, the Prophet placed his hand on it. Jabir’s wife continued baking the dough,
and the Companions kept eating. Imagine this: 70 men who were digging the trench,
digging through rocky ground all day, exhausted and hungry, having eaten nothing.
Jabir's wife kept baking, and the bread never ran out,
feeding everyone until they were full, all from just one and a half kilograms of flour.
How could this be?
Then the Prophet distributed the goat to all the people of the trench, and afterward, he returned it whole to Jabir.
What kind of miracle is this? This is the blessing of the Prophet!
We learn that sending Salawat and peace upon our Master, the Messenger of Allah, while preparing or eating food
or drinking can increase its quantity and bring blessings to it.
Whenever someone asked me to pray for them, I would invoke Allah for them
by using a form of sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
“O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and his family. Grant a prayer that heals this patient from their sickness.”
By Allah’s will, even those patients about to undergo a surgery would be healed
by the blessing of sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I also taught this form of Salawat to many people suffering from fatal sickness,
including cancer and other life-threatening diseases, such as blood disorders.
And yet, they would recite it and later inform me that,
the Almighty Allah relieved them from their distress, and this was solely by the blessing of sending Salawat upon our Prophe (PBUH)
All praise is due to Allah, and may Allah send blessings, peace, and grace upon our Master and beloved Muhammad,
and upon the family of our Master and beloved Muhammad, the guide to the path of faith.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and the family of our Master Muhammad,
a prayer that heals from every ache, disease, pain, and affliction.
In this period of physical hardship, I couldn’t sleep or wake up easily.
Whenever I leaned my hand on the couch, my joints hurt; moving it caused even more pain.
It was an incredibly painful state.
I couldn’t even pray properly. Then, I found a prayer bead (misbaha) in front of me, and by Allah’s grace,
He inspired me to send Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
I began sending Salawat upon the Prophet with my tongue, and then, by Allah’s grace, I noticed something remarkable.
At first, I was sending Salawat while listening to a lecture on logic or theology,
and my mind was distracted by the lesson while sending Salawat; it didn’t feel right.
So, I paused the lesson and focused my mind and tongue on sending Salawat.
The second time, I stayed consistent, and by Allah’s grace, I felt its effect on my heart.
All praise is due to Allah, this sense of healing gradually moved from my heart to the rest of my body.
All praise is due to Allah, I was healed of this illness.
I am certain of the Prophet’s words: “Your worries will be relieved.”
Trials and misguidance are removed
If you want righteousness for your child, increase your Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
If you seek work, children, or anything else,
we should not use the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, merely as a means to fulfill our needs.
Rather, we send Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to get closer to Allah.
The greatest desire is to be close to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad as long as eyes can see,
as long as the earth is adorned with rain, as long as pilgrims perform Hajj and Umrah, respond to the call, shave, and sacrifice,
as long as they circumambulate the Ancient House and kiss the Black Stone, blessings everlasting as long as Allah’s sovereignty endures.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad ibn Abdullah, the one who fulfilled Allah’s command.
An Orientalist once conducted a study on the libraries of the Ottomans.
He noted that in a third of the homes he entered, he found copies of Dalā’il Al-Khayrāt (a book of prayers upon the Prophet).
Today, many Muslims have never even heard of Dalā’il Al-Khayrāt.
As a result, blessings disappeared, and what we now see is chaos, poverty, severe inflation, and disasters.
Let me tell you something: in the old days in our country,
we had gatherings called Majlis Al-Salāh ‘ala al-Nabī (Gathering for invoking Salawat upon the Prophet), (PBUH)
At least twice a week, the people of the village would gather to send Salawat upon our beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
We would rejoice in these gatherings, and we rarely missed them. I remember, at that time, I was a fisherman.
We would say, “Praise be to Allah, the weather is clear today let’s go fishing.”
When the gatherings for sending Salawat upon the Prophet, peace be upon him, stopped, drought struck.
The Euphrates River dried up. Who could have imagined that the Euphrates would ever run dry?
It became a small stream.
So we ask Allah, the Almighty, to bless us with a continuous and lasting connection.
May He grant us the privilege of consistently sending prayers upon the Prophet.
Indeed, the continuous and constant sending of Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is a great blessing.
Sending prayers upon the Prophet is beneficial, intercessory, and comprehensive. It becomes a garment.
It becomes a crown. It becomes kohl (eye-liner).
It becomes provision.
It becomes nourishment. It becomes medicine.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, blessings that are continually increasing.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, blessings that never cease for all eternity.
Allah’s bounty is vast.
A person may reach this expansive goodness by offering just a few sincere prayers.
If they say it with sincerity and consistency.
When someone loves something, they mention it frequently. Abundance in mention is a sign of love.
Your path to becoming one of those who love to send Salawat upon the beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
is shown in the words of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him:
“Whoever sends one prayer upon me, Allah will send ten upon them.
Whoever sends ten prayers upon me, Allah will send a hundred upon them.
Whoever sends a hundred prayers upon me, Allah will send a thousand upon them.
Whoever sends a thousand prayers upon me, Allah will forbid the fire from touching their hair and skin.”
This is the greatest hadith that elevates a person to closeness with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Increase your prayers upon me.”
“The one who sends the most prayers upon me will be the closest to me in position on the Day of Judgment.”
Imagine knowing these words and acting upon them. Send many prayers upon the Prophet, and Allah will give you abundant blessings.
When you meet someone who frequently sends prayers upon the Prophet, you sense their kindness and gentleness.
You feel their compassion, and you feel that they embrace and support you.
By Allah’s grace, when a person becomes part of this group, the group of those who consistently send prayers upon the Prophet(PBUH)
and commits to a daily routine, with a specific time and focused presence,
Allah’s blessings and honor will engulf them.
Frequent Salawat upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, are a guarantee of a good ending to one’s life.
Didn’t Allah say: “O you who believe, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims”?
How can I ensure this? How can I preserve my faith until death?
Look at the preceding verse:
“And how could you disbelieve while the verses of Allah are recited to you and His Messenger is among you?”
Here, the word “how” is not a question expecting an answer; it is rhetorical, expressing complete disbelief at the idea of someone falling into disbelief.
It rejects the possibility that a person would disbelieve as long as the Qur’an and the Prophet are in their heart.
If you hold on to these two, the Quran and the love of the Prophet, no matter where you are, you will die as a Muslim.
In a hadith, the Prophet said: “Allah does not look at your forms or your bodies,
but He looks at your hearts. Piety is here.”
Scholars of spiritual insight have said that the epitome of piety lies in the heart of the Messenger of Alah, peace and blessings be upon him.
If you seek piety, you must strengthen the connection between your heart and the heart of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
You draw this piety from him.
The gateway to this connection and spiritual bond is through sending prayers upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
To achieve this connection, repetition and frequent recitation both in quantity and quality are essential.
This involves the number of prayers and the blessings they bring.
There are forms of prayers upon the Prophet that focus on quantity, and others that focus on quality, recited just once.
For example, in Dalā’il Al-Khayrāt, there are formulas for sending Salawat as numerous as grains of sand and pebbles.
These prayers bring blessings in the form of good deeds and spiritual illumination.
One of the blessings of repeating these formulas from the book Dalā’il Al-Khayrāt is:
“O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, as numerous as Your forbearance.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, as numerous as Your knowledge.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, as numerous as Your words.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, filling the heavens.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, filling Your earth.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, filling Your Throne.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, equal to the weight of Your Throne.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, as numerous as what the Pen has recorded in the Preserved Tablet.”
“O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, as numerous as the stars in the sky.”
“O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and the family of our Master Muhammad, as numerous as the flowing clouds.”
“And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, as numerous as the sweeping winds.”
“From the day You created the world until the Day of Judgment, a thousand times each day.”
The one who frequently sends Salawat upon the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, is always driven to do so.
In sending Salawat upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
this motivation can help us understand a person’s dedication.
For example, if someone says the Prophet instructed them to send a certain amount of prayers and they stick to the bare minimum
that is their right and their share. But why not consider another hadith that encourages greater devotion?
When a Companion asked the Prophet how much of his Salawat he should dedicate to prayers upon him, the Prophet advised him to increase it.
The Companion asked, “A quarter?” The Prophet said, “More if you can.” He asked, “Half?” The Prophet replied, “More if you can.”
Finally, the Companion said, “I will dedicate all my Salawat to sending prayers upon you.”
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Then your sins will be forgiven, and your worries will be relieved.”
Therefore, the person who fills their time with Salawat upon the Prophet is following this profound advice.
Why then should we focus only on the hadith that mentions the minimal requirement?
From this hadith, we understand that the minimum daily portion of prayers upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is ten times.
This is the least you can offer to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
If a person in this modern age commits to sending Salawat ten times in the morning and ten times in the evening,
it will truly bear fruit and bring benefit. I believe this will create a passion to send more and more prayers upon the Prophet.
Eventually, this can develop into a goal — reaching a hundred or even two hundred prayers a day.
When someone reaches three hundred prayers, they are counted among those who pray abundantly.
Imam Al-Sakhawi said in Al-Qawl Al-Badī‘: “The minimum for abundance is three hundred.”
Whoever sends Salawat upon the Prophet, (PBUH), three hundred times in a day and night is considered to be abundant in prayer.
In worldly terms, imagine someone who regularly greets you by phone in the morning and again in the evening.
That consistent communication keeps the connection alive; you are occupying their thoughts and heart.
Now imagine sending prayers upon the Prophet a thousand times a day. Your name will be present with the Prophet, in his thoughts and heart.
Two thousand times — your name is with the Prophet.
There were lovers of the Prophet who sent ten, twenty, even twenty-five thousand prayers daily.
Some even reached a hundred thousand prayers daily and were known as “the Light” for their devotion.
When they entered their town, the whole place seemed illuminated.
I met a man from the Kazmoz family in Damascus who had passed away.
By Allah’s grace, whenever I looked at him, I saw radiance, brightness, and an extraordinary light in his face.
I asked his teacher about him, and he told me that this man had a daily practice of sending Salawat upon the Prophet (PBUH)
approximately eighteen thousand times each day.
Our Master Uthman used to recite the entire Quran in a single rak‘ah (unit of prayer).
Allah Almighty has bestowed blessings (Barakah) in time for those people.
This man would continuously move his lips for consistently invoking Salawat upon the Prophet.
He once said to me, “Pray that I die while sending Salawat upon the Prophet.”
“That I enter my grave while sending Salawat upon the Prophet, and that I am resurrected while sending Salawat upon the Prophet.”
“That I enter Paradise while sending Salawat upon the Prophet.”
He told me, “It’s not just for the reward and blessings, I love sending Salawat upon the Prophet.”
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master and beloved Muhammad, as numerous as what Your knowledge encompasses.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master and beloved Muhammad, as numerous as what Your Book records.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master and beloved Muhammad, as numerous as what Your power brings into existence.
No one can deny all this light, blessing, and goodness in this world and the Hereafter
that come from the benefits of sending Salawat upon our Master Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
However, in our modern time, some people try to cast doubt on certain matters related to sending Salawat upon our Master Muhammad
peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
For example, they question the legitimacy of using different formulas for sending Salawat
besides the Ibrahimic form that was reported directly from him, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
Is it true that these various forms of Salawat upon the Prophet are considered an innovation (bid‘ah)?
We will discuss this topic in our next episode by the will of Allah.
We invoked Salawat on the Prophet (peace be upon him) more than 111 times in this episode.
