Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him.
O believers! Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him,
Dalil Al-Khayrāt (The Guide to Goodness) Episode 08
A Mercy for All
When we seek signs of the greatness of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family),
we find this manifested in his character and interactions.
The first attribute that stands out is "mercy".
What does mercy mean, and what are its manifestations
that were reflected in his dealings and his life?
It is evident that mercy became an intrinsic part of his nature
in every aspect of his life, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
O Allah, bestow Your prayers, blessings,
and mercy upon the Master of the Messengers,
the Leader of the Righteous, and the Seal of the Prophets.
Our Master Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger,
the leader of goodness, the guide to righteousness, and the Messenger of mercy.
The moment the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is mentioned,
we are filled with reverence.
Then, beyond that,
we marvel, by Allah’s will, at our love for him and at being part of his community, peace and blessings be upon him,
because he is profoundly merciful, merciful, merciful.
"Indeed, there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves.
Grievous to him is what you suffer; he is concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful." (Quran 9:128)
Compassion is the highest form of mercy. As Allah says, "We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds." (Quran 21:107)
When Allah intended to define this mercy,
He described it by attributing it to Himself, as an honor and a mark of greatness: "My mercy encompasses everything." (Quran 7:156)
says, "Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good." (Quran 7:56)
"My mercy encompasses all things."
According to the Arabic language, "All the worlds" includes everything.
When we say "Lord of the worlds," it doesn’t mean just the Lord of humans.
It means the Lord of all creation.
The Lord of all the worlds.
So, Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is a mercy to the angels,
a mercy to humans, a mercy to the jinn,
a mercy to all creatures,
and a mercy to the entire universe.
You are shown mercy through our Master, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
The Prophet dealt with all of creation
as it is the creation of Allah.
And he understood that nothing is devoid of awareness,
as Allah says: "There is not a thing except that it exalts Him with praise, but you do not understand their way of exalting." (Quran 17:44)
That’s why we find that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,
treated animals, inanimate objects, and humans with the same compassion and care.
For example, a gazelle was once caught by a Bedouin and tied up.
The gazelle motioned toward the Prophet, indicating that it wanted his help as he passed by.
The Prophet approached it.
It said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have young ones whom I am nursing.
I was coming to drink water from this well when this Bedouin caught me."
The Prophet called the Bedouins and said, "O Bedouins."
They responded, "Yes, O Muhammad."
The Prophet said, "This gazelle has informed me that she has young ones she needs to nurse.
Let it nurse them, then she will return, and you may do with her as you wish."
They said that it will not return. He said, "Yes, I pledge this to you."
So they released it, and she nursed her young ones. Then she returned to the Messenger of Allah as she had said.
They said to him, "It was out of your mercy that we let her go, O Messenger of Allah."
A camel also came to the Prophet, peace be upon him.
It approached him with affection.
He said, " It complains to me about its owner, who neglects to feed it and burdens it with excessive toil."
Meaning, it tires it out.
Similarly, even his interaction with the wooden trunk,
which yearned for the touch of his noble hand,
that he used to lean on while delivering sermons,
The trunk cried and wailed so much that everyone present could hear it.
Ordinarily, inanimate objects are beyond our perception,
but it is remarkable that such things occurred with the Prophet,
even before his Prophethood.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "I know of a stone in Makkah that used to greet me prior to Islam.
I still recognize it now."
Thus, the Prophet was accustomed, even in his youth, to objects speaking to him.
Even in some accounts of his birth,
it was said that the moon would playfully interact with him as a small child.
Indeed, he is a mercy to all worlds.
A mercy to all worlds, not only in his mission,
but both in his mission and even before it.
O Allah, send blessings upon the intercessor of all creation.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one in whose hand food glorified You.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one to whom the tree trunk cried and yearned for his presence.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one to whom the birds of the wilderness pleaded.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one in whose hand pebbles glorified You.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one to whom the gazelle spoke in the most eloquent words, seeking intercession.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one to whom the lizard spoke in the presence of his noble Companions.
To understand the true meaning of "Mercy to all the worlds,"
we must connect it to the vastness of Allah's mercy, exalted and glorified is He.
The mercy of our master Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him,
is not confined to the limits of his lifetime.
Rather, it is tied to the vastness of Allah's mercy,
which encompasses his life, what came before it, and what follows it until the Day of Judgment.
This means that we must understand the Prophet in a broader sense,
not only as the physical person of Muhammad.
He was a Prophet while Adam was still in clay form.
He is the Prophet to whom Prophethood was intrinsically tied—
connected to spirituality, not just his physical form.
The physical form of Muhammad represents his temporal life in this world—
(In whatever form He willed, He assembled you).
However, he had a form before his spirituality appeared
in the Muhammadan body. This form
was concealed within the universe, sustaining all creation
with the means of Lordship: care, protection, and guidance.
For the cause must always precede its result.
If mercy is the cause of the emergence of the worlds,
then mercy must necessarily come first.
Thus, the Prophet precedes all of this, for he is the Mercy to all worlds.
For any world to manifest, mercy must precede it as the reason for its existence.
Allah says: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Quran 21:107)
Meaning, We have made you nothing but a gift.
You are the treasure of the gift,
the sum of the gift,
and the distributor of the gift.
As it is authentically narrated: “Allah is the Giver, and I am the Distributor.”
Allah gives His Beloved things for himself and for the universe,
for he is the gateway of provision to the universe. Everything that comes to the universe flows through him.
He, peace and blessings be upon him, is the chosen one of Allah, entrusted as the caretaker of the people of the earth.
Allah entrusted him with the message of existence—the message of truth to creation—from the time he was sent as a prophet until the Day of Judgment.
Every Prophet was entrusted with the responsibility of their specific nation and for a limited period of time.
But the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, bore the responsibility for the entire nation—not just those in his era,
but for all of humanity from the beginning until the end, until the trumpet is blown.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one adorned with the crown.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one who ascended the heavens.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one who carried the staff.
O Allah, send blessings upon the rider of the noble steed.
O Allah, send blessings upon the rider of al-Buraq.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one who traversed the seven heavens.
Every perfection found in every Prophet seems as though it was derived from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
When you read the stories of all the Prophets in Surah Al-Anbiya,
and Allah concludes with: “And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds,”
one realizes that the manifestations of this mercy encompass all the previous Prophets.
In this way, you come to understand that he is the Prophet of all prophets,
the one behind the prophethood of every Prophet.
This is why, after saying: “And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds,”
Allah did not follow this verse by: “Say, I am only a human being.”
It indicates that it is not about the Muhammadan human form but
say, ‘It is only revealed to me that your Lord is One God. So, will you submit?’
He did not say, “Say, I am only a human being.” Why?
Because it refers to the Muhammadan spirituality,
which preceded the emergence of all other Prophets.
Therefore, the word "human" was not mentioned in this verse.
This is also why Allah did not make his role stops after his death.
Rather, he, peace be upon him, said, “My life is better for you.”
In my life, you bring up matters, and they are clarified for you.
You act upon things, not knowing Allah's judgment, so the Qur’an is revealed to illustrate it for you.
And when I pass away, my death will also be better for you, as your deeds will be presented to me.
My connection with you does not end, nor does your connection with me.
So, when I pass away, my death will still be better for you, as your deeds are presented to me.
When I see good, I praise Allah, and when I see otherwise, I seek Allah’s forgiveness for you. This is our unbroken bond.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one with the signs.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one with the proofs.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one with the indications.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one with the miracles of divine grace.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one with the signs.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one with the clear proofs.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one with the miracles.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one who demonstrated extraordinary wonders beyond natural laws.
The mercy of our Master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)
cannot be fully described, but we can observe some of its manifestations.
Among the most prominent of these is his mercy toward his nation,
not just toward the believers among them but even the disbelievers.
Therefore, they said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
was fearful of Allah's presence, the ultimate presence, when it manifested upon His creation, causing them to vanish. This is reflected in the verse:
Say, "Who has control over anything from Allah if He wills to destroy the Messiah, son of Maryam, his mother, and everyone on earth?" (Quran 5: 17)
Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) understood this matter, so he humbled himself before Allah.
The thing he feared most for his nation was his mercy, even for the disbelievers.
For the disbelievers from other nations, calamities descended upon them,
Some were struck by a violent wind, some were overtaken by a loud cry,
Some were swallowed by the earth, and others were drowned. And Allah was not unjust to them.
This nation has been spared the punishments that afflicted previous nations.
Out of the mercy of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for this nation, he did not pray for their destruction.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Prophet of Mercy.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Intercessor of the Ummah.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Revealer of the Distress.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Manifestation of Darkness.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Bestowed of Blessings.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Giver of Mercy.
Some righteous people saw our Prophet, peace be upon him, in a dream.
They said, "O Messenger of Allah, you said that Surah Hud and its sisters made my hair turn gray."
He replied, "Yes, I said that."
The person asked, "What made you turn gray from it? Was it the stories of the Prophets and the news of the previous nations?"
He replied, "No, but what made me turn gray was the words of Allah: 'So remain steadfast as you have been commanded, and those who have turned in repentance with you.'"
The scholars said, "But there is a similar verse in Surah Al-Shuraa:
'So call to [the religion of] your Lord and remain steadfast as you have been commanded.'"
The question arose, "Why did it cause him to turn gray in Surah Hud, but not in Surah Al-Shuraa?"
The answer is that in Surah Al-Shuraa, he was commanded to remain steadfast alone, and he was indeed steadfast, peace be upon him.
But in Surah Hud, he was commanded to remain steadfast along with his nation, so he feared for his nation.
He, peace be upon him, turned gray from the intense fear he had for his nation.
There has never been a person, and there never was,
and there will never be a person who knew how to treat the young
and how to treat the old,
how to treat the noble, and how to treat the subordinate,
how to treat the husband, and how to treat the wife,
how to treat the young man, and how to treat the young woman,
how to treat the individual, and how to treat the community,
like the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
He used to serve his family with a different approach. This is the Prophet, peace be upon him.
He would mend his clothes and repair his sandals.
One of the sayings of the Prophet that I always remember and reflect upon is:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The weak is the leader of the group.”
This is because the weak always walks slowly, and when they are the leader,
it means everyone in the group must lower their strength to this level; there is no distinction.
Anyone who doubts that the Prophet’s character resembles ordinary human traits
should understand that he was simply considerate.
Imagine someone grabbing you by your clothes
and demanding you pay what you owe, just like the man who held onto the Prophet’s garment.
Now, look at yourself and your reaction—what would you do? What is the harshest punishment you could inflict on this man?
That man who spoke and acted this way with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
He said, “I wanted to see if your description matches what is mentioned in the Torah.”
And he found that his description truly matched what was written in the Torah.
That he only increased in forbearance and patience toward the ignorance of others.
We always tell the youth: do not misunderstand Islam.
Islam is to follow the Prophet.
Did the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ever hit his wife?
Did the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ever hit a child?
Did he ever strike any person?
The Prophet(PBUH) never raised his hand to strike anyone, except in battle to defend himself. This is the truth(PBUH)
I will never forget one day
when one of the European philosophers embraced Islam.
He said to me, “It’s a shame that you haven’t shown us the image of the Prophet’s mercy.”
“You have shown us negative images that have distanced us from appreciating this beauty.”
He told me, “When I read about the beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, I loved him.”
“I found that he loved me, so I embraced Islam.”
“And when I want to experience this beauty,
I wander through the stories of the lovers, and you find a European, someone you would think could never embrace Islam,
crying with love because he has tasted the beauty of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.”
This is the beauty that shapes this nation: “And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.”
This is the primary purpose: it is God’s mercy in creating this creation.
If it were not for our Master Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him,
there would have been no creation, no servants, no heavens, nor earth.
This is not an exaggeration.
This is the truth for those who have realized the matter, the true essence.
O Allah, our Lord, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad.
O Allah, our Lord, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad.
The Master of all the prophets and messengers.
O friend of the Beloved, in admiration and affection, descend.
Do not turn away from the sacred sanctity of his blessed presence.
Grant him honor with a home that is sought and blessed.
The most honored of Allah’s servants in glory and elevation.
A prophet with the highest place in Paradise, exalted and honored.
A great prophet, his rank is immense, sent with the truth.
He was cherished from the time he was a child and nurtured with divine guidance.
So, for Allah, from him, it is the highest and most complete.
The quality of his mercy, peace and blessings be upon him, is closely tied
to his forgiveness of those who wronged him, peace and blessings be upon him.
This forgiveness is most beautifully exemplified in the incident of the conquest of Mecca,
which reflects his exalted status and the nobility of his character, peace and blessings be upon him.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one from whose light all lights overflow.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one, through whose prayer the burdens are lifted.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one, through whose prayer the ranks of the righteous are attained.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one, through whose prayer both the elders and the young are granted mercy.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one, through whose prayer we enjoy comfort in this world and the Hereafter.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one, through whose prayer the mercy of the Almighty Forgiver is attained.
We have learned glimpses of his mercy, forgiveness, and gentleness towards humanity and the entire universe, peace be upon him.
This leads us to better understand the meaning of Allah’s description of him, saying:
“And indeed, you are of a great moral character,” peace be upon him.
And this is what we will learn more about in the next episode, by the will of Allah.
We invoked Salawat on the Prophet (peace be upon him) more than 87 times in this episode.
We must pause at such moments in his life, peace and blessings be upon him,
to understand how there is no one better or more complete than him in dealing with all of creation.
Because, peace and blessings be upon him, he is the messenger for all of humanity.
